Our story

Meralda Station is a family-owned and operated property, set just outside the outback mining town of Cobar, NSW and home to the Barton family.

In 2021, we opened Meralda as something a little different. A place for those wanting to experience the Australian outback as it truly is. Not polished. Not reshaped. Just the land, in all its raw and rugged beauty. Our little bush retreat is low-impact and completely honest. We haven’t polished or reshaped it to fit anyone’s expectations.

We’ve kept Meralda intentionally small.

No rows of vans.

No crowded sites.

No constant flow of people coming and going.

Just space, to breathe, to think, and to feel like you’ve got the outback all to yourself.

Out here, it’s not unusual to feel like you’re the only one for miles.

If you’re looking for manicured lawns, concrete slabs, or luxury facilities, you won’t find them here, and that’s exactly the point.

But if you’re craving simplicity, stillness, and a deeper connection to the land, you’ll feel right at home.

From fire-cooked meals to sunset outback bathouse soaks, each experience here is designed to help you slow down and take it all in.

There’s no schedule.

No pressure.

Just time, space, and a slower way of being.

If that sounds like your kind of escape, you’re in the right place.

This is Meralda Station - real, raw, and ready to share the outback with you.

You haven’t experienced the Australian outback… until you’ve stayed here.
