About

Meralda Station is a family owned and operated property, located in the outback mining town of Cobar and is home to the Barton family.

Our story

Hi There, We are the Barton family John, Jenniffer, Drew and Bella.

Back in 2021, we turned Meralda into something special. A place for real outback adventurers who want to connect with the land, not hide behind luxury. Our little bush retreat is low-impact and completely honest. What you see is what you get with us, and our offering. The land as it is, in all its raw, rugged beauty. We haven’t polished or reshaped it to fit anyone’s expectations.

We’re nothing like a caravan park. There are no rows of vans, no crowded sites, and no rush of people coming and going. We’ve kept Meralda small by choice because what we value most is space. Space to breathe, space to think, and space to feel like you’ve got the outback all to yourself. Here, it’s not unusual to feel like you’re the only person for miles.

If you’re after manicured lawns, concrete slabs, or luxury facilities, you won’t find them here and that’s exactly the point. But if you’re craving simplicity, stillness, and the feeling of truly being part of the land, then you’re in the right place.

If you want to really experience the outback, you can join us on a farm tour, hear the stories behind Meralda, share a camp oven dinner under the stars, or soak in the Bedford Bathhouse as the sun melts into the horizon. Or maybe you’ll just set up on a secluded site and let the quiet and vastness do their work. However you spend your time here, it’s all about slowing down and reconnecting with what’s real.

You might join a healing or well-being session, take a sunset bath, or simply sit back and watch the colours of the land shift through the day. There’s no schedule, no pressure just time, space, and peace.

If that sounds like your kind of escape, then welcome.

This is Meralda Station - real, raw, and ready to share the outback with you.

  • "Our stay at Meralda was absolutely amazing! Everything from the cheese platter on arrival to the group dinner were just perfect. That is the best goat curry I have ever eaten! Jenny and John are incredible hosts and their property is so beautiful. I wish we could have stayed longer to experience the bath on the Bedford. We will definitely be back!" - Nicole

  • "We absolutely loved our stay here! Beautiful outlook of the outback, great amenities and friendly owners :) We felt like we got the real Cobar experience and would highly recommend camping here to experience the outback like the locals would" - Kane

  • "What a gem! Stayed overnight in the Glamping caravan and it was amazing. Highly recommend to preorder some wood for a bonfire and the moon shower is awesome. The kids loved it and we will be back to stay for longer" - Renee
